Jonah Hill Stops Promoting New Movies Due to Mental Health

Jonah Hill will not be promoting his new films, for the time being, NME reported Thursday. The American actor will work on his mental health. Hill has suffered from panic attacks for nearly two decades.

The panic attacks are made worse by media appearances and public events, says the 38-year-old Hill in a public letter. In it, he also describes what other realizations he came to while making the documentary Stutz.

In the film, Hill, known for such films as Superbad, 22 Jump Street, and The Wolf of Wall Street, discusses his mental health with his therapist, Dr. Phil Stutz. The documentary also discusses mental health in general. "The purpose of this film is to pass on to the public the tools I learned in therapy," he said.

Hill is taking an "important step to protect himself" by not promoting films for the time being. "If I did make public appearances, I would only make myself sicker," he said. The actor also believes he has the integrity to follow the advice from his documentary.

With the public letter and new film, Hill is making an effort to normalize mental health. "I understand that this is a privilege," Hill adds. He acknowledges that he is not at risk of losing his job.

Hill also stars in the comedy You People, which can be seen on Netflix this year. Earlier this week, actor Tom Holland also announced he was taking a break due to his mental health.
