We know that staying hydrated is important. But do you know there's a trick that tells you if you're getting enough fluids? This is how you find out.
And it's actually very simple.
On TikTok, videos are going around with a trick to check your hydration level. They call it the 'skin pinch' test:
Karan Rangarajaran, aka the "TikTok doctor," shares medical facts on this app. The trick goes like this: extend your finger and squeeze the upper part of your hand to find out if you are hydrated enough. Karan explains that the more water you've drunk, the more elastic your skin will be. Within two seconds, your skin will spring back if you have drunk enough water. Did you not get enough fluids? Then your skin will be a lot less elastic and it will take much longer to return to its original state. Your skin will then stay up just a bit longer.
Less elastic skin as we age
This trick works, because doctors also apply this test in practice when they want to know whether you have a moisture deficit. Nutritionists Samantha Cassetty and Kathyrun Piper confirm this. A small note though: as you get older the trick can be a little less reliable. Your skin then becomes a little less elastic anyway. As a result, when you are older your skin can take longer to spring back, about twenty seconds.
