As the world begins to open up after the pandemic, it is only natural that you want to make up for lost time. For some, this will mean digging into their bucket list – and this could include things like climbing Mount Everest. It’s a tall task, to put it lightly, but it is something many of us wish to do. Sadly, right now you might find that climbing Mount Everest is going to be needlessly risky.
In the last few years alone, Everest has run into overpopulation problems. Many people are determined to climb at least part of Everest. This means that overpopulation of the mountain has become a genuine issue, leading to people getting injured. In 2019 alone, 11 hikers died – five more than in 2018. Part of this comes down to overcrowding on the main parts of hiking, and also issues such as dehydration and exhaustion.
If you turn up now you could be in a queue of tens, even hundreds, of people. People all waiting on an extremely dangerous surface that is putting them at risk of a life-curtailing fall down. This also can lead to problems like the climb taking too long, meaning that you run through supplies of oxygen, food, and water – this could become fatal.
Another big problem is people turning up thinking that climbing Everest will be a breeze. This is among the hardest natural challenges that we can find on our planet. This is not for the amateurs or the early-level enthusiasts. Leave climbing Everest to the professionals who have been doing things like this for years.
There are simply too many risks involved in climbing this yourself to be worth taking on alone. Without the right training, tools, techniques, and supplies, you could literally die by climbing Mt. Everest. So, leave it to the experts who know what they are doing.
Climbing permits are a dime a dozen, but just because you get a permit does not mean you should be climbing such a dangerous slope. Try and use common sense, and look closely at whether or not climbing Everest is really something you can do.
Unless you have already conquered many impressive mountains in the past, you are not experienced enough for Everest. Many veterans of the hiking game will never even attempt Everest – it is not something that you should try for fun or as a test. Please, keep that in mind.
