Japan is seen by many as one of the major homes of wellness. If you spend any period reading into Japanese culture, then it is rife with ideas that are used to better ourselves and our bodies. Japanese hair secrets, though, are some of the most popular in the world. Some hair traditions in Japan proclaim that they can leave you with long hair and flowing, stylish locks: is this true?
The claim is that in Japan if you use rice water to wash your hair then your hair grows faster and more luscious. This has been an ancient Japanese remedy that has only recently gained traction in the West. The claim is that by using rice water you will find that your hair is going to become longer and stronger. The science behind this is that the starch which is in the rice water forms the surface of your hair shaft. This makes it stronger, and more hydrated, and generally reduces the risk of split ends.
The water itself is also believed to be home to some positive amino acids and antioxidants that our hair needs. To make rice water for your hair, you simply need to take some rice and some room-temperature water. Mix them into a bowl and stir until you see the water becoming misty looking. When this happens, take an empty bowl and strain the rice water so that you are left with only water, no rice.
Then, use this rice water in your hair when you are in the shower. Shampoo your hair as you normally would, and then use the rice water – simply pour it over your hair. Let it absorb into your hair, too; do not wash it out instantly. Give it 5-10 minutes and then rinse your hair out.
Do this on a regular enough basis, and you too could benefit from the mysterious benefits of using rice water in your hair. It might sound positively ridiculous, but it is an ancient Japanese hair growth technique. If it did not work, it is unlikely that the myth would have survived this long!
Why not try it out and see for yourself?
