Mythical Creatures that Have Never Existed to the Delight of Humanity

The world of nature is often a confusing, weird place. We spend our time learning about creatures and animals from across history, only to find them typically weird. However, thanks to humanity's history of tall tales, it looks like some creatures are brought to life through nothing more than the mind of someone inventive!

The Griffin

The first mythical beast to make our list is the Griffin. A popular creature in mythology, the concept of something with the body of a lion, the head of a bird, and wings, is something that has been used in many different forms of mythology. While they are prominent within Persian history and Egyptian mythology, they are not real. In storybooks, they tend to guard large quantities of wealth.

Mermaids

The mermaid is a commonly used trope within fantasy novels, but they are just that: a fantasy. With the body of a woman but the bottom of a sea creature, mermaids have been part of mythology and scare stories for centuries. They are, though, like everything else on this list, a figment of the imagination: they are simply not real. Despite being the antagonist of many a myth or story, no proof that mermaids are real exists in our world.

Bigfoot

A popular myth is the idea of the giant Bigfoot. Bigfoot is an incredible-looking creature in mythology, but it is purely fictional. It has been a reported creature since the mid-1900s; a monster man-beast that would dwarf even the tallest NBA superstar. As evidence shows, though, not a single piece of proof – hair, skin, bone, tooth, DNA, anything – has ever been found to corroborate its existence.

Nessie

The Loch Ness Monster is a ridiculous claim; a giant beast that lives within the water of Loch Ness in Scotland. Not only would something the proposed size of this be spotted regularly, but Nessie would – going by most estimates – be simply too large to survive in such a habitat. It might be a cracking story to drive tourism and fool people into visiting, but it’s not a real creature. Sightings have been made since the 1900s, but there is absolutely no proof that Nessie is anything other than a tall tale told by locals to drum up interest.
