As one of the most popular streaming services out today, Disney+ has managed to rope in millions. It is a highly successful app, giving people the opportunity to watch their favorite Disney properties from the comfort of their homes. However, one feature surprisingly missing from the app has been additional in-app features that can make more money for the House of Mouse.
This, though, looks set to change by the end of 2022. Reports suggest that things like themed merchandising and QR-code purchased accessories will be available to buy in the store by the end of the calendar year. This would give people the chance to buy goods from the official Disney store and to pick up the numerous branded items that go with the many, many shows and movies available for you to watch.
This could be another way for the company to make more money. Alongside the rising cost of subscription services like Disney+ as well as other options like ESPN+, though, people might feel the cost of entertainment is going up, up, and up.
Disney is also launching a cheaper plan for Disney+, which would be around $7.99 per month and would introduce four minutes of adverts into every hour of watching. The aim is eventually to bring in a kind of Amazon Prime-inspired subscription platform that could allow for bespoke discounts and deals for Disney merchandise and goods.
There is plenty of innovations going on, but fans of the service will want to see even more added to the platform. With increased costs comes increased expectation, and that is sure to see people expecting more, not less, from the popular streaming platform. Whether this becomes part of a streaming bundle, as is common elsewhere, or not remains to be seen.
