Actress Jane Fonda has non-Hodgkin lymphoma. On Instagram, the 84-year-old American writes that she has now been undergoing chemotherapy for six months and is doing reasonably well. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is cancer in the lymphatic system.
"This is a terrible form of cancer," the actress writes. Yet she is also hopeful. "80 percent of people survive it, so I know I'm very lucky."
She also says she realizes that many Americans cannot get the care she receives. "I realize - and this is painful - that I am privileged," she says of her good health insurance and the treatments she receives.
Fonda, who profiles herself as an outspoken climate activist, says that in addition to treatment, more attention should be paid to the causes of cancer. By this, she is referring to toxic fossil fuel emissions.
The actress, who will soon turn 85, goes on to reveal that she is feeling fine at the moment. "And believe me, none of this will hinder my commitment to the climate," she writes.
