4 Unique Foods to Try Out

Food is something that, to many, is subjective. Some of us love curry; others hate them. Some of us love sweetness, while others prefer sourness. Food is quite an opinionated thing, then, which can make it easy to decry and dismiss the culinary tastes of other people. Two popular tourist destinations are Japan and Peru. Famed for their culture and geography, both countries also have unique culinary cultures. What, then, should you try out if you decide to visit either – or both – of these countries?

Fugu

Fugu is a Japanese delicacy that you might know about if you have ever watched The Simpsons. This is a form of toxic blowfish that is delectable to eat but potentially fatal if prepared incorrectly. It is found across Japan, and you have to make sure you use a licensed Fugu chef. It means the price increases, but you, you know, don’t have to worry about dying from eating pufferfish! That would be nice, would it not?

Cuy

Cuy is a Peruvian delight that is among the most popular dishes in the country. This is a roasted guinea pig that is easily found everywhere in the country. You might find it on street vendors, in restaurants, and elsewhere. Some might feel a bit bad about eating a guinea pig, but this is a hugely popular food dish across the country. If you want to experience the most unique foods of South America, Cuy is definitely up there!

Anticuchos

Another Peruvian dish to try out would be anticuchos – grilled beef heart on a skewer that is marinated in a garlic sauce. This is something that takes a bit of getting used to in your mouth, but it does taste quite amazing once you get used to it. If you want to be really adventurous with the food that you eat, then this is probably one of the best dishes to try out when you come to visit Peru.

Tsukune

Tsukune is another tremendous Japanese delicacy that is sure to catch you by surprise when you first try it. These are meatball-like products that are made using a blend of minced chicken and curry sauce. They are very popular and can be quite the choice if you are looking for Japanese food that gets the mouth kicking into action. If you want to enjoy something a little different, be sure to try Tsukune at least once in your life.
