4 of the Most Powerful Villains in Marvel History

As one of the two major comic book franchises alongside DC Comics, Marvel has become one of the biggest media properties in the world. Whether you know them from the comic books or the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and TV shows, Marvel is a household icon. Over the years, the army of superheroes has faced off against all kinds of supervillains. Who, though, ranks among the most powerful enemies?

Galactus

Hail Galactus! Few in Marvel, really, can live up to the immense power of the devourer of worlds himself. The wielder of the Power Cosmic, he is the ‘boss’ so to speak of the Silver Surfer. Serving as the planet-devouring deity, Galactus has gone through several character arcs that have turned him from a nemesis to a being of somewhat good. His immense power and body require him to eat plants and their inhabitants – or their energy, at least – to survive.

Hela

Hela is one of the most interesting characters in Marvel and is the Goddess of Death and Chaos in Norse mythology. The daughter of Odin and sister to both Thor and Loki, she spends a ridiculous amount of her time scheming. Banished by Odin to the underworld, she always looks to find ways to cause strife and mischief in the world of Asgard and its allies. Definitely one of the most powerful, and devious, villains in Marvel.

Knull

As an eldritch god of immense power and the ‘father’ of the symbiotes that the likes of Venom and Carnage wear, Knull is evil with a capital E. He was during a void that existed between the sixth and seventh cosmos being formed and serves the primordial darkness as one of its main leaders. The Celestials invaded his kingdom, and he created the symbiotes – and his incredible sword – to fight back. One of the most terrifying antagonists in recent Marvel history.

Thanos

The Mad Titan is among the most powerful enemies in Marvel. He is devoted to Death and has seen himself as a herald of hers for a long time. His primary aim is to wipe out half the universe, believing there are simply too many people, and to do this he uses the infamous Infinity Gauntlet. After ‘snapping’ half of the known universe dead, it was eventually reversed. Thanos is regarded as one of the all-time great Marvel villains.
